Coach Kathy Owen

Kathy Owen (Head Coach)

Like many of the runners she coaches today, Coach Owen started her running career in high school. Before moving to Colorado, she was an assistant Cross Country and Track & Field coach at McMurry University. While coaching at McMurry, she coached her athletes at the NCCAA Cross Country Nationals and Indoor & Outdoor Track & Field National Championships. After moving to Monument, she accepted the Cross Country assistant coach position at Lewis Palmer High School. A couple of years later she was recruited to Palmer Ridge High School as the assistant Cross Country coach, and later accepted the Head Cross Country Coach position. Coach Owen resigned her Head Coach position at Palmer Ridge in July 2023 due to integrity issues with the AD & other coaches involved. Coach Owen has coached Colorado teams numerous times at the Nike Cross Regionals in Arizona.

Through those opportunities she coached several athletes to All State, All Conference, and All American selections while being mentored by Hall of Fame coach inductees.

Coach Owen is still a competitor! You’ll find her at various venues, including track & field events, 5k, 10k, and half marathon races.

  • Masters All-American in LJ, 60m, 200m, 400m, 5k & 10K

  • 6x USATF Phidippides Award winner for outstanding performance and endurance in long distance running.

  • 3x USA Triathlon National Championship Olympic Distance qualifier

  • Ambassador Athlete with Skechers Performance GO RUN Team since 2016

  • USATF Cross Country Specialist

  • Ambassador Athlete with Garmin

While highly competitive, Coach Owen knows firsthand the importance of balance in training. From proper rest to good hydration, she lives as she coaches.

Coach Owen trained our son in his first year of cross country. She was really great at getting him to push himself and he really responded to her training. By then end of the season he had improved his time by over four minutes!
